KCI Congratulates Former Chief Executive Officer Catherine Burzik on 2019 AdvaMed Lifetime Achievement Award

SAN ANTONIO, September 13, 2019 – KCI, an Acelity Company, congratulates former Chief Executive Officer Cathy Burzik on being named the 2019 AdvaMed Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. Burzik will be honored with the award during the annual MedTech Conference on September 25, 2019, at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. 

Burzik was appointed CEO of KCI in 2006, leading the Company through transformational global expansion and impactful large-scale business transactions throughout her six-year tenure. In 2008, Burzik facilitated the acquisition of LifeCell, a leader in regenerative medicine and strategic fit for KCI, for $1.7 billion, diversifying and expanding the KCI portfolio into the biosurgery market. 

The following year, Burzik was a driving force in broadening access to V.A.C.® Therapy with entry into Japan, further expanding KCI’s presence in key global markets. In 2010, Burzik led KCI to introduce the PREVENA™ Incision Management System, a first-to-market therapy and key component in the KCI surgical solutions offering. Additionally, while under Burzik’s leadership, the stock price for KCI nearly doubled prior to KCI’s exit from the public market to private ownership in 2011 for $6.3 billion.

Prior to joining KCI, Burzik served in a variety of executive leadership roles at numerous companies in the healthcare industry including as CEO and President of Kodak Health Imaging Systems, President of the Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics Division at Johnson and Johnson, and President of Applied Biosystems. 

AdvaMed’s Lifetime Achievement Award honors the accomplishments of pioneers in the medical technology sector whose contributions have had a significant impact on patients’ lives and the industry as an essential part of America’s economy.
