KCI, an Acelity Company, has signed a collaborative research agreement with UT Health San Antonio. The five-year agreement will allow the organizations to compile a body of research measuring the clinical effectiveness and economic benefit of KCI’s advanced wound care therapies and further UT Health San Antonio’s understanding of healing outcomes and associated costs with different therapies and care protocols, all while improving San Antonio’s footprint in innovation and research in wound care.
The San Antonio-based organizations will work together to design research studies analyzing KCI’s advanced wound care solutions. The agreement will allow for medical students, fellows, residents, nurses and other faculty to design and conduct quality outcomes research. The first study will be conducted in conjunction with UT Health San Antonio’s Department of Orthopaedics, focused on KCI’s surgical management solutions.
“At KCI, we have a steadfast commitment to evidence-based outcomes, and we are always looking to work with partners who have the same goals that we do – restoring people’s lives,” said Ronald Silverman, M.D., FACS, Chief Medical Officer, KCI. “Our relationship with UT Health San Antonio will help us continue to move healing forward and will further support our efforts to provide customers and patients with the best possible solutions backed by proven clinical data.”
“Agreements like this are integral to continued medical innovation and cutting-edge research. Given their position in the advanced wound care industry, we’re keen to explore what we can discover about advanced wound care together with KCI, and further our contribution to the academic research community in this important area,” said Boris A. Zelle, M.D., Associate Professor and Vice Chair of Research, Department of Orthopaedics at UT Health San Antonio.
